The Invasion of Khybros Prime

The Invasion of Khybros Prime

Factions of gathered as the Galaxy is once more set aflame. A previously unremarked world, called Khybros Prime by the Imperium of Mankind, stands at the crux of this new age of war. A small Adeptus Mechanicus research station has uncovered something powerful, and old. Forces rush towards one another, to lay claim to this mysterious artifact, or destroy it. Who shall prevail?

This is a Battle Point tournament: Combining each round (up to 20pts per round) + Combined Paint Scores (up to 20 pts). Each round will be 2 hours and 50minutes.

How to Play –

Mission Selection and Pre-Game Process

  1. Once at your table, swap lists with your opponent and study what you’re up against.
  2. Roll for Table Sides
  3. Choose/Roll for Warlord Traits
  4. Choose/Roll for Psychic Powers
  5. Place Objectives as per mission instructions
  6. Alternate Deployment as per BRB, starting with the player to place the last objective.
  7. After both players have finished deploying their army, roll to determine first turn. The player who finished deploying first receives a +1 to this roll. The player that wins the roll can choose to go first or second. The player who is chosen to go second may attempt to seize the initiative.
  8. High fives and handshakes!

Holding an objective: Measure 3” from the CENTER of the objective and count the number of MODELS. The Player with the most MODELS in range is considered “holding” the objective. IF there is a tie in number of MODELS in range, the objective is considered “contested” (see missions for values of holding or contesting an objective).

Sudden Death(i.e. “Tabling”): As BRB(pg215) with the following adjustments:

-In the event of a Sudden Death condition, the player whom still has models on the table is awarded +3 Victory Points towards the Kill Points Objective (Primary for mission 1, Secondary in Mission 2 and 3). Furthermore, that player continues to play out the remaining turns with all applicable phases (Movement, Psychic etc) to obtain the most points available from Objectives or things like Linebreaker, until the game reaches a natural end point (including rolling for 6th, and possibly 7th turn).

-Note: if a player Concedes as part of a Sudden Death situation, they receive no points earned throughout the game such as from Slay the Warlord or First Blood.

Victory Through Attrition Applies towards Kill Point Objective/Differentials: +1 KP per 8 Wounds (only applies to models with 20+ wounds/with the “Titanic” keyword).

Forces have gathered, called by the cries of civilians, the call of awakened power, or some dark signal undetected by either. As the meager defenses fail to ward off those who would strike the backwater world, fleets move to take various orbital positions both natural and constructed.

Mission 1: Breach Orbit

Deployment: Search and Destroy

Primary: Bloody the Enemy’s Defenses/Fleet(up to 10pts)

-For each unit fully destroyed, gain 1 Victory point, to a max of 10pts.

-(Victory Through Attrition) For every 8 wounds caused to a model with the TITANIC keyword, a player earns 1 Victory Point toward the “Bloody the Enemy’s Defenses” Objective. Note: This applies to wounds caused, therefore wounds which are recovered and then lost again may result in additional Victory Points.

Secondary: Bypass the Station’s Controls(up to 6pts Differential)

-Each Player places one objective in their deployment zone. This must be wholly outside of 12” from any other objective, and wholly outside of 6” of any board edge.

– At the end of the game, for each objective held a player earns 3 points. Contested objectives earn 1 point for each player.

Tertiary*: First Blood, Slay the Warlord, Linebreaker

*First Blood: 2pts if you score on a game turn before your opponent. 1pt if you score on the same game turn as your opponent.

*Slay the Warlord: Gain 1 pt if you have slain the enemies warlord at the end of the game.

As the epic orbital confrontation above begins to subside, the green hued skies of Khybros begin to tear open as various landing craft burn through the upper reaches of the atmosphere like raindrops of fire. The barren plateaus surrounding the only settlement on this world, standing like sentinels over an empty emerald tomb. Radiation shield generators, modified in haste and enhanced by the unearthed powers below, deflect any large scale maneuvers.

Mission 2: Rain from the Skies Above

Deployment: Spearhead Assault

-Dawn Raid: Both players must subtract 1 from all hit rolls made in the Shooting phase during the first battle round of the game.

-The Night Raider Stratagem is available to both players: Use this Stratagem immediately after deployment. For each Command Point you spend, the Dawn Raid rules apply for one additional battle round. For example, if Player 1 uses 2 Command Points on this Stratagem, both players must subtract 1 from all hit rolls made in the Shooting phase during the first three battle rounds of the game (to a maximum of 3 rounds). Note: if one player chooses to invoke this Stratagem, their opponent can match each CP spent to negate the effect.

Primary: Control the Generators(up to 10pts)

With the shield grid under control, or destroyed, your forces have leave to enter the city proper. As enemy forces make a break for the control center to take command of the artifact. To destroy it, or use it’s power, the choice is yours… assuming you live to make that choice.

Mission 3: Secure the City

Deployment: Front-Line Assault

-Place one objective marker at the exact center of the board. At the end of each game turn, any unit that Holds the Relic gains 2 points. Contesting the Relic awards 1 point to each player. (Rules for picking up and moving the Relic are as BRB pg223). Note: if a model has picked up the Relic, it cannot be Contested.

Secondary: Hold the City(up to 6pts, Differential)

-For each unit fully destroyed, gain 1 Victory point. At the end of the game, subtract your opponent’s Victory points. The difference is awarded (only positive values).

Factions:

-Inquisitor Tetriman:

Radical Inquisitor, who first received the distress call of Khybros Prime. Gathering what forces were on hand, and rushing headlong to secure the Relic as well as save what citizens as could be saved, Tetriman’s forces aren’t the only ones to respond…

-Warleader Kraggish the Merciless

A bloodthirsty leader of a renegade band of murderers, anarchists, and chaos worshipers, Kraggish felt the Artifact’s discovery across the seething Immaterium and covets it’s power. With it, he plans to ravage a thousand worlds in a bloody campaign to be written in the wails of his victims.

-The Crecent

An entirely inhuman presence, whose motives and intentions are unknowable. Yet, despite the enigma of their arrival, it is clear that nothing pleasant would befall anyone left on Khybros Prime. A darkness, both in the minds of the soldiers gathering and of the stars themselves grows as it’s power approaches the system…

Pledge yourself! Each player will have the chance to pledge themselves to one of the above factions. As each round progresses, the victories or defeats of each of the 3 Factions will yield potential boons. At the end of the tournament, the results of Faction with the greatest victories will lead to a prize* for the members of that faction.

*Prizes and results will be announced after the first round of play as they are contingent upon attendance of the event.

Basic Paint Score Rubric:

These will be part of the ‘Best Overall’ award. Your paint score will be added to your battle point score to create the total score. The paint score will be scored by reviewing the level of painting across an entire player’s army. Note that we are not putting any ‘hard’ rules here about painting quality – slapping 3 colors on different parts of models won’t count as ‘basic standard’. A reasonable effort to put colors on the appropriate parts of a model will count. ‘Good tabletop standard’ includes basic shading (washes or dry-brushing done to a reasonable standard would count for this). A model counts as ‘Based’ if the base is painted or sculpted appropriately to represent the ground the model is standing on. Transparent flyer bases automatically count as based.

Best Painted award is granted based on review of armies submitted for the Painting competition. Dark Bunny Creatives representatives along with the TOs will determine the “Best Painted” army on multiple levels of technique and execution.

Champion’s Bolter

All across the Universe, champions have their achievements immortalized in monuments, tales, and even in the very words of their names. At Field of Fire Gaming tournaments, our Champions should expect nothing less. To be crowned “Champion” is to be held as 1st among peers, a mark to be displayed… and challenged by rivals and allies in equal measure.

Every Warhammer 40k event will include the naming of such a Champion, with a combination of martial prowess on the table as well as their skills in the hobby itself by bringing fully painted forces to battle (and thus enriching the games for all in attendance). Once crowned, they shall be presented with a Bolt Pistol, emblazoned with the event’s name, along with their own, to proudly display in future events.

Not only can they laude their achievement, but it comes with an additional bonus, should they feel up to the challenge included.

-If a Champion present’s their Bolter in a future event, they may receive a $5 discount on entry. BUT in doing so, they may be Challenged by their opponents each round.

-For each Victory a Champion has, they will receive a Mark to their bolter. After 10 Victory marks, a Bolter may be presented and a special Laurel of Marksmanship received.

-For each Defeat, their opponent will receive a mark of Victory, having overcome the prowess of a tournament Champion.

Let every Champion proudly display their victory, and let every Challenge to those marks of victory ring true the valor of those who wield them!
